About Horizons @ RCWNY

In the summer of 2022, Horizons @ RCWNY became a regional affiliate of Horizons National—an award-winning network of high-quality, tuition-free, and immersive academic enrichment programs serving children from under-served communities throughout the country.

The first Horizons Student Enrichment Program was offered in 1964 when an independent school in New Canaan, Connecticut initiated a summer program designed to serve children in neighboring low-income urban areas. Over the next decades, the New Canaan Country School helped many Horizons students achieve their full potential and was awarded a grant in 1994 to replicate its promising pilot program throughout the United States. Buffalo is so grateful to be a part of this movement.

Who We Are: Horizons @ RCWNY

Horizons provides 45 students, primarily from Buffalo, with a full year of academic and enrichment programming aimed at closing the achievement and opportunity gaps experienced by Buffalo's under-resourced students. The program is anchored by a six-week intensive summer program serving kindergarten through 2nd grade. It is supplemented by an after-school year-round program. We are adding one new grade level each year and all of our after-school and 6-hour summer programs are tuition-free.
